Comic book listing software for resellers and dealers

Title, issue, publisher, grade — read from the cover or slab. Listings ship in seconds.

The problem

Listing comics on eBay requires reading the cover — and then typing what you just read into a form.

Comic listings have a fixed structure: title, issue number, publisher, year, variant designation, and grade (raw or slabbed). All of that data is on the cover or the slab label. Yet the standard workflow is to identify the comic in hand, find the right eBay category (Comics & Graphic Novels, then by publisher, then by era), open the listing form, type every field, write a title that fits in 80 characters, and find a comp.

For long-box liquidations, this is a multi-day data-entry job. For graded comic flippers, the slab label has every field you need but you still type them into the form yourself. And for variant hunters, getting the variant designation right (newsstand, retailer exclusive, virgin cover, ratio variant) is often the difference between a $20 listing and a $400 listing.

HumCity reads comic covers and slab labels. Title, issue number, publisher, year, variant, and grade are extracted automatically. The listing ships to the right Comics & Graphic Novels sub-category with the right item specifics, and pricing is suggested from recent eBay sold comps and GoCollect data.

What you get

Capabilities built for this exact workflow.

  • Cover reading: title, issue, publisher, year, variant

Drop a photo of the cover and HumCity extracts the title, issue number, publisher logo, cover date, and variant designation when visible. The model is trained on modern Big Two output (Marvel, DC, Image, Boom, Dynamite) as well as Bronze and Silver Age covers. Newsstand vs direct edition is distinguished by the UPC box format.

  • CGC and CBCS slab parsing

Slabbed comics carry every relevant field on the label. HumCity reads the grading company, numerical grade, label color (Universal Blue, Signature Series Yellow, Restored Purple, Qualified Green), cert number, and any notes (Signature Series details, key issue designations, page quality). All of this flows into the eBay item specifics and the title.

  • Variant and key-issue recognition

Variants drive comic value disproportionately. HumCity flags common variant types — newsstand, retailer exclusive, virgin cover, sketch cover, ratio variant — when visible on the cover. Key issues (first appearances, first cover appearances, deaths, major events) are tagged in the listing description so buyers searching for keys find the book.

  • Comp pricing from eBay sold listings + GoCollect

Comic pricing references both eBay sold comps and GoCollect's tracked sales database. HumCity pulls both, surfaces a suggested range, and shows you the comp tape. For graded comics, comps are narrowed to the exact grading company and grade. For raw comics, comps are pulled across a grade band you can adjust.

  • Long-box bulk upload

Long-box liquidations (300+ comics) are exactly what Pile Mode was built for. Drop the photos in batches of 500 and HumCity identifies each comic and ships them to drafts. You can sort by suggested value to decide which to list as singles vs. lot up as runs.

  • Auto-fills Comics & Graphic Novels item specifics

The eBay Comics category has required item specifics for Publisher, Series Title, Issue Number, Publication Year, Era, Tradition, Universe, Genre, Variant Type, Certification, Grade, Grade Authority, and Certification Number. HumCity prefills all of these from the cover/slab data and the comic catalog.

Use cases

Built for the way real resellers work.

Long-box liquidators

Buying boxes of comics at estate sales or shop closures is a high-volume sourcing pattern with a high-cost listing workflow. HumCity ingests long-boxes in Pile Mode, surfaces the keys and high-grade copies first, and helps you decide which to grade, which to list as singles, and which to lot up as $5 runs.

Graded comic flippers

Submitting raw comics to CGC and listing on return is a flippers' staple. HumCity reads the new slab on return, ingests it as a draft listing, pulls the comp set for the exact grade, and ships to eBay. The cert number in the title lets buyers verify on the CGC registry before bidding.

Variant hunters and key issue specialists

Variants and keys are where comic money is made. HumCity flags variant types when visible and tags key issues from a continuously updated database — first appearances, first covers, deaths, major events, and milestone issues. The variant designation and key tags drive search relevance for the listing.

Modern speculation sellers

Modern speculation (new #1s, Marvel and DC events, indie launches like Saga or Something Is Killing the Children) moves fast and prices change weekly. HumCity ingests modern stock quickly and the comp pricing reflects current week-over-week movement, so listings price against today's market rather than last month's.

FAQ

Common questions

Does it identify variants?
Yes — HumCity flags common variants (newsstand, retailer exclusive, virgin cover, sketch variant, ratio variant) when visible. For variants identifiable only by the cover image (e.g. a Skottie Young variant), the cover-image match is the primary signal. For variants identifiable by markings or UPC, the variant-detection logic looks at those.
Can it read CGC and CBCS slabs?
Yes — grade, cert number, label color, page quality, signature series details, and notes are extracted from slab labels. The cert number is included in the listing title for buyer verification on the CGC or CBCS registry.
What about raw, ungraded comics?
HumCity suggests a grade band from the cover image (corners, color, spine wear visible) and flags it for review. You make the final grading call. For raw comics, the listing condition reflects the band you accept (Very Fine, Near Mint, Fine, etc.).
Does it handle vintage Bronze and Silver Age comics?
Yes. Bronze and Silver Age coverage includes most major Marvel and DC runs. Pre-Code Golden Age coverage is improving. For unidentified vintage covers, the AI surfaces the closest match and flags it for your review.
Can I list comic lots and runs?
Yes. Lot listings are first-class — photograph a run or partial run and HumCity drafts a single lot listing with an auto-generated description listing every issue included. The lot ships to the eBay Comic Books > Lots category.
Does it pull pricing from GoCollect or just eBay?
Both. eBay sold comps are the primary signal, and GoCollect's tracked sales database is layered in for broader comp coverage, especially on lower-volume issues where eBay comps alone are thin.
Does HumCity support magazine-format comics (Heavy Metal, Vampirella)?
Yes. Magazine-format and prestige-format comics are recognized and ship to the appropriate eBay category with the right item specifics.
Can I revise existing comic listings I already have on eBay?
Yes. On first connection, HumCity pulls your active eBay listings into the dashboard. You can bulk-edit titles, prices, item specifics, and shipping across your entire active inventory and push the revisions back via the API.
Are TPBs, graphic novels, and Omnibuses supported?
Yes. Trade paperbacks, hardcover collections, and Omnibuses are recognized and ship to the appropriate Books > Comic Books TPB & Graphic Novel category.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. Every account gets 50 free listings or revisions per month with no credit card required. Most resellers can fully evaluate the AI workflow, image recognition, and bulk upload before deciding to upgrade. Paid plans start at $10/month for 500 listings and scale with volume.
Which AI models power HumCity?
HumCity routes through Lovable AI Gateway, which selects between leading vision-language models from OpenAI and Google (GPT-5 / Gemini 2.5 / 3.x families) depending on the task. We constantly evaluate new models and silently upgrade the routing — you get the best available accuracy without changing how you work.
