what: An evening of music, dance, and art to benefit the Area 74 project and the Humboldt Spin Collective. Inferknow has been working on obtaining special use permits for a piece of property in Fieldbrook know as Area 74. The plan is to hold music and art events as well as a number of other community related projects. The evening  features 2 rooms of music performances by many local acts (The Bump Foundation, Bloco Firmeza, The Nucleus, Plush Fuzz, DJ Rickshaw), dance performances by Samba na Chuva and the Humboldt Spin Collective, Deep Groove Society spinning all night, food, drinks for those over 21 and live art by Empire Squared! Strange Brew Fundraiser

what: A fund raising for the Eureka Theatre. Four local breweries create a secret strange brew, the movie Strange Brew is shown, and all is accompanied by the Accordionaires! There is a best strange brew contest and a best movie-themed costume contest. Winners receive very special event-themed prizes. Ticket includes all the beer, one hearty movie-themed entree, the movie, shown in hoserama, and 2 votes! And, the first 300 ticket holders in line at the theater on October 25, 2008 at 5:30pm receive a free commemorative pint glass emblazoned with the event logo. Tickets are available at the Eureka Theater, The Works. All proceeds from this event go to the Eureka Theatre’s restoration project – handbill

Big Rains core trio is Peter Alamo, Bruce Guynn, and James Chatterton. Bruce Guynn handles lead vocals, bass guitar and keyboards. Peter Alamo plays lead and rhythm guitars and sings vocal harmony. James Chatterton adds guitars and piano. On drums and percussion is the renowned session man, Chet McCracken, who was with the Doobie Brothers for 18 years. On several occasions, Chet has received honors as Rock Drummer of the Year. Richie Podolor, one of the pioneers in surf guitar with his hooky melodic styles, and one of the top mandolin players, adds his mandolin to the mix. Richie produced the hits for Three Dog Night and Steppenwolf. He was also rated as the number two on a list of top ten producers for the decade of the 70s. Two of Southern Californias best, Doug Livingston on peddle steel guitar and Bobby Furgo on fiddle, complete the unique sound that is the album Big Rain – photo

Keyboardist Mike Kapitan leads a group playing Miles’ music (and originals) starting from the Kind Of Blue era to the rockin’ psychedelic explorations of the Bitches Brew and Live/Evil period. Featuring Brad Werren trumpet, Dan Pearson tenor/soprano sax, Anna Pfiefer basses, and Mike LaBolle drums.
